Traffic Insanity

Ok I am not sure what I have said about the road conditions and traffic here, but let me just inform you or refresh your memory for those who have heard a bit about life on the road in Nairobi. First off, the roads here have potholes the size of small cars. And they are approximately 10 yds to 100 yds (if your lucky) apart from each other on EVERY single road. So there is a lot of dodging going on. If you are not dodging the massive craters in the ground then you are dodging either bikers, walkers, or cars who are passing other cars going up hill, around a curve. Yes. INSANE. I am sure there is a more scary word to use, but I can't think of it right now. I am losing weight just from riding in cars. My body (stomach and arms especially) stay so tensed up because I am constantly thinking "this is it.. God is bringing me home today" or I am trying to manuever the vehicle with my mind. (remember the nintendo games, I was the kid whose whole body moved anytime Mario jumped or dodged or died. I guess I still have a bit of that in me. Also, every road has speed bumps. There are normally signs to warn you, but here signs are a waist of money because no one except me apparently pays any attention to them.
Ok, so Wed. night a few of us decided to go to this resturant that is set up like an Arabic place to chill. The waiters are dressed like they are in Morocco and the furnishings are couch like. It is not like Chile's where you go to a table and sit at a table or booth. It is real comfy take off your shoes and stay awhile kinda of place.
Well it was around 6:30 when we left and it should have taken us 20'ish minute to get there, but we didn't arrive until 8:00 something. To begin with the traffic was crazy. And instead of having normal red, green lights they have these round abouts which don't really work during rush hour so the might Nairobian Police come out and direct traffic. So they let who over go when they want. If they don't want your lane to go you could sit there for 10 or more minutes while he lets the other lanes go multiple times. Annoying. We honked and almost got in trouble so. Finally, we get in the right neighborhood (at least we think) and well it was dark, rainy and you can't see anything at night here. (driving wise). Well we did several U-turns and on one of the u-turns we get stuck in a ditch. Jess couldn't see and missed judged and there we were. Downtown Nairobi, (generally not the safest place in the world), at night, 3 white girls and luckily we had a guy, stuck in the ditch. So Brenton gets out and tries to push the car out, but no luck. We are freakin' out thinking we were going to die or get robbed or something, but luckily these 3 guys rather muscular Kenyans get out of their car and helped Brenton get us out. If they had not of come along we would have been in trouble. We finally found the resturaunt and it wasn't even all that good. Kind of lame after all that trouble. We did make it home in about 20 min. safely.
Life in Africa. Welcome to my world. :)
