Last April, my mom and 3 other people from her church came to Nairobi to see me. Ok well, actually they came for missions. We had some friends (who retired this summer) that worked for the IMB (Internation Mission Board- a southern baptist org.). So this team came to help finish a house (painting, cleaning, building), to work with the street kids (feeding them and just hanging out for a little while), and they also did a one day mini vacation Bible school. The picture below is my mom teaching the older kids at this school some songs. However, they knew a lot already and had great voices. My mom really enjoyed them. I helped a little, but anyone who has sat near me in church knows that God did not give me the same musical talents that he gave my parentals.
Just a side note this is a "Baptist" school in the slums of Nairobi. The couple that started and continue to run this school came from very nice jobs in Nairobi. They run this school on donations only. It is free to the kids of this area and when the school started the child death rate was at 90 (something) %. Today it is 0% for the kids who attend here. Many of their parents have aids, are drunks, have disabilities. The kids get 2 hot meals a day and an education. The teachers who teach here do it for free. They have preschoolers up to high school aged students.
I told my mom she HAD to do this! I did it remember?
Ok this picture CRACKS me UP!! It looks like my mom and the ostrich are both smiling at the camera and are both just so happy!. HAHAHAHA
The men have to hold the ostrich down otherwise it would take off and you would never stop.
Mom and Morani. Remember he is my friend (rafiki) from Sweetwaters. However, I have some horrible news to report. My roommate just returned from Sweetwaters and Morani has passed away. I was so sad!!! He is just so cute. RIP Morani.
My mom and her flowers. She loved this tree. It is very pretty. I bet she took over a 100 pics just on flowers and plants. I like this pic. I look thinner. HAHAH!!
Mom and I at the Baptist school. There was a little girl named Wendy. VERY unusual.
Kazuri beads. These ladies make clay jewelry and dishes and it is amazing! I think my mom spent half of her spending money on this jewelry.
Great Picture MOM!! Wow how did you do it?
I loved having my mom here. She stayed an extra week with me and we hung out and did things that are normal for me. She did not like the monkey park or Hawkers market. She loved Masaai market, which I hate most days. :) She loved Diamond Plaza and the Bhajias. Ask her to say that word "Bhajias" hahaha. She can't say it. HILARIOUS!! I LOVE YOU MOM!!!
